Easter Update!   14/04/2017

The club would like to wish a Happy Easter weekend to all members, supporters and followers.

Last week, our u21 footballers suffered defeat in their replay against Charleville, 1-15 to 1-13.

The game, which was played in Mallow, was a close contest throughout, with both sides wasting good chances. However, it must be said that on the night the result was probably fair, and we wish Charleville the best of luck in the rest of the competition.

Within 10 minutes, Buttevant trailed by seven points to two, Charleville thundering out of the blocks and our inability to get into our stride hurt us in the end.  This Buttevant team already had experienced being behind against Charleville, and didn't panic and chipped away at the lead, bringing the deficit to a single point at half time, Charleville 0-9 Buttevant 0-8.

From the throw in at the start of the second half, we were chasing the lead, and no matter what we did Charleville still maintianed a buffer zone of a point or two. in the 41st minute, they struck for a goal, creating serious distance between the teams, Charleville 1-12 Buttevant 0-10.

As stated, this young team has plenty of heart, and they fought back without dropping the heads, determined to claw their way back into the game, and a period of sustained pressure resulted in a penalty being awarded for Buttevant! Ryan Fowley buried it, and with only five minutes left the game was now down to two points once more, Charleville 1-14 Buttevant 1-12.

The clock was aginst us, and when Charleville responded to the penalty by kicking a point, the gap was stretched to three points. We cut it down to two, but in the dying minutes we could not find a way through the stiff defence. Disappointment etched across the lads faces, but they can be comforted in the fact that they gave it their all.

In other news around the club, our hurlers have their first outing of the year on Easter Sunday, in Mallow playing Mallow at 11:15. The days are bright and the evenings long, and its great to see the hurley and sliotar in fella's hands. The team will look to kick off the campaign with a win, and with Mallow a beehive activity this weekend due to the Easter Racing festival, why not lend your support to this young team before suiting and booting for the races.

The club 50/50 draw takes place on Easter Monday at half time of the club bingo, which the jackpot is a whopping €4,100!!! There was an incredible turnout last Monday, and as always there are loads of cash prizes to be won aside of the jackpot! As the saying goes, if you're not in, you can't win!
